Troubleshooting Basics

Browser Based Software

Higharc is a software built on the web which means it can be accessed anywhere on any computer with an internet connection and a supported browser. There is no need to download the platform locally to a computer.

For supported browsers, see 1.2 Access and Requirements.

What does this mean?

The software can be updated constantly! This is great because new features and upgrades can be released constantly and frequently. This can mean that your browser can become out of date or an outdated version of Higharc can be loaded in your browser, causing errors.

Recommended Troubleshooting for loading issues:

Update the Browser

Update the browser frequently, about 1-3 times per month. To update the browser:

  1. Select the ellipsis in the upper right corner of the browser.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. On the left panel Select ‘About Chrome’ or ‘About Edge’.

  4. The browser will automatically update.

    1. Note: Often an ‘Update’ message will appear in the browser next to the ellipsis alerting that a big update has been released. This can be clicked and the update will run automatically.

Clear the Cache

Clear the browser cache frequently, about 1-3 times per week. To clear the browser cache:

  1. Shift+Command+Back (Mac) or Shift+Ctrl+Back (Windows) to open Browsing Data Window.

  2. Select the ‘Advanced’ tab.

  3. Change the date range to ‘All time’

  4. Clear the following fields (keep these checked):

    1. Browsing Data

    2. Download History

    3. Cookies and Other Site Data

    4. Cached Images and Files

  5. Select ‘Clear Data’.

Browser extensions for Edge or Chrome can be downloaded to create a shortcut to clear the browser cache as well.

Okay, that didn’t work, what next?

Unable to edit a file: Read Only Mode

Check the top blue banner to see if the file is in Read Only mode. This means permissions have not been granted to edit the file.

  • If this is the case, ask the file author to add the member as an authorized user.

  • If permission is granted and the file is still in read only mode, clear the browser cache and refresh the page.

Lagging while editing a file

If loading times are slow or there is a lag while operating the program.

  • Check the local internet connection. Higharc is powered by the internet so a strong internet connection is required.

  • Update the browser.

  • Clear the cache.
