Locking & Detaching Home Plans

How to protect a Home Plan from upstream changes.

Overview

The fundamental promise of Higharc’s system is that when you make your changes in one place, they’re reflected everywhere, automatically. However, after a certain point of time in the lifecycle of a Home Plan, you might want changes from “upstream” data (e.g. the Studio Document or Community Plan) to stop flowing down to the plan. For example, if the customer has made their option choices, and you increase or decrease the price of an option, you wouldn’t want that to affect the price of the already-configured Home Plan.

Locking

Why lock a Home Plan? Once your plan should no longer be edited, you can lock it to freeze the Plan Set PDF, prevent editing in Showroom, and more.

  1. To lock a home plan, the plan must be in the Pre-Construction or Construction Phase.

  2. Choose the three dots at the top right to Lock Home Plan and prevent the respective home plan from inheriting changes to the master studio file. This also freezes the following assets, so that they’re never re-generated:

    1. Plan Set PDF

You can unlock a Home Plan if you need to edit it again, which will make it configurable in Showroom, and changes to the plan and the associated assets (such as the Plan Set PDF) will flow back in once again.

Detaching

Why detach a Home Plan? If your plan still needs to be edited, but shouldn’t inherit updates from the original upstream data, you can detach instead of lock so that the plan is protected from changes, but can still be edited.

Choose the three dots at the top right to Detach Home Plan and allow further customization to a file outside of existing limitations in the community plan available in Showroom.

Note: Once a Home Plan has been detached, it cannot be re-attached to the original source. This is because as time passes, the original and detached plan may have drifted too far apart from each other to merge back together.

Detaching a Home Plan creates a set of detached parent data you can modify as well. In addition to creating a detached Studio Document, the Lot Plan, Community Plan, and Master Plan also get a detached copy for editing.

You can edit the detached Studio Document by clicking the three-dot menu (see above screenshot) and selecting Open Studio File. You’ll see this icon when editing a detached file, and changes after publish will only affect that single Home Plan —

Assigning a detached Home Plan to a lot

When you detach a Home Plan, Higharc creates a detached copy of its Community Plan. The copy's name combines the original plan name and the Home Plan name, for example EH_Rosebank for AG102.

The lot dropdown in Edit Home Plan lists only lots that have this detached Community Plan in Plans Available. It doesn't list lots that have only the original Community Plan.

Higharc adds the detached Community Plan to a lot only at detach time, and only to the lot the Home Plan was assigned to at that moment. No lot appears in the dropdown in two cases:

  • You detached the Home Plan while it had no lot.

  • Someone later removed the detached plan from the lot.

In either case, add the detached plan to a lot first.

Requirements

The lot must:

  • Have Available status

  • Have no Home Plan in Pre-Construction or Construction

The Home Plan must be in Plan Preparation. Once a Home Plan moves past Plan Preparation, Edit Home Plan shows the lot as a read-only field.

Add the detached plan to a lot

  1. Open the location's Lots table.

  2. Turn on the Detached Plans toggle. The default view hides detached plans.

  3. Find the lot and open the selector under Plans Available.

  4. Select the checkbox for the detached Community Plan.

Assign the Home Plan to the lot

  1. Open the Home Plan.

  2. Open Edit Home Plan.

  3. Select the lot in the lot dropdown.

  4. Submit the change.

Change the lot on a Home Plan past Plan Preparation

Home Plans in Pre-Construction or Construction can't have their lot changed. To change the lot, move the Home Plan back to Plan Preparation, assign the lot, and move it forward again.

Note: Review these consequences before you change the phase:

  • Moving the Home Plan to Pre-Construction regenerates the plan set.

  • If the lot isn't a spec lot, Higharc changes the lot status to Sold when the Home Plan moves forward.

  1. On the Home Plan page, select Plan Preparation under Plan Phases.

  2. Follow the steps in Assign the Home Plan to the lot above.

  3. Move the Home Plan to Pre-Construction, then to Construction. Move one phase at a time.

Troubleshooting

Edit Home Plan says "There are no available lots for this [plan name] Plan"

  • No lot has the detached Community Plan in Plans Available. Follow the steps in Add the detached plan to a lot above.

  • The lot isn't Available, or another Home Plan on the lot is in Pre-Construction or Construction.

The lot field is read-only or shows "No lot"

  • The Home Plan is past Plan Preparation. See Change the lot on a Home Plan past Plan Preparation above.

The detached plan doesn't appear in Plans Available

  • Turn on the Detached Plans toggle in the Lots table.
