Overview
The flexible hierarchy system introduces a new organizational structure for managing locations, their option offerings and their inheritance structure. This system allows for better organization and more granular control over option overrides at different levels of the hierarchy.
Hierarchy Levels
The system supports up to five hierarchical levels. Each level is optional — enable only the ones that match your business structure.
Company (Top Level)
Highest organizational grouping
Disabled by default — enable in Location Settings
Example: Higharc South, Higharc Midwest
Region
Groups divisions by geography or business unit
Disabled by default — enable in Location Settings
Example: North Carolina, Georgia, Texas
Division
Represents a regional or organizational grouping
Provides high-level control over pricing and options
Can contain multiple communities
Example: Charlotte, Durham, Raleigh
Community
Groups related phases together
Inherits plans and settings from parent levels
Can contain multiple phases
Example: Sun Valley, Brookhaven, Highland Acres
Phase (Bottom Level)
Smallest organizational unit
Inherits plans and settings from community level
Default lot tracking enabled
Manages individual lots and home plans
Example: Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3
All levels support optional lot tracking and optional Home Plan creation. Builders who do not need the full hierarchy can skip levels entirely — for example, going straight from Division to Community, or using only Communities and Phases.
Location Settings
Location Settings has two layers: account-level settings (which hierarchy levels are available) and per-location settings (which control individual location behavior). This section covers account-level settings. See Per-Location Settings below for settings on individual locations.
Admins can configure which hierarchy levels are available and customize how they appear across the product.
Navigate to Account → Location Settings.
Toggle each level on or off to match your organizational structure.
Click the edit icon next to any level to customize:
Display Name — Rename the level (e.g., rename "Division" to "Market")
Examples — Add example names to help your team understand how to use the level
Icon — Choose a custom icon for the level
Tip: Company and Region are disabled by default. Division, Community, and Phase are enabled by default. You cannot disable a level that already has locations assigned to it.
Note: Changes to Location Settings affect all users in your organization. Coordinate with your team before enabling or disabling hierarchy levels.
Navigation
Locations Page
The locations page features enhanced navigation capabilities:
Clickable location names link to location homepages.
Column headers (lots, plans, home plans) provide direct access to specific sub-pages.
Expandable views show hierarchical relationships between divisions, communities, and phases.
Creating and Managing Locations
Below is an example of how to create nested locations within a hierarchy. The example uses Divisions as the highest level of hierarchy and Phases as the lowest, but the steps are identical for any level of hierarchy that is enabled for an account.
Creating a Division
Navigate to the Locations page.
Click the New button on top right.
Select "Division" as the location type.
Enter division details:
Name
Address (optional)
Allow Lots toggle — Enables lots at this location. If disabled, lots and maps are hidden at this level. Lots created at the Division level will not be inherited at Locations below the Division.
Show Map Tab toggle — Controls whether the Map tab is visible on this location.
Allow Home Plans toggle — Enables creating Home Plans directly at this location, independent of lots.
Select master plans to make available in sub-locations or to be used when creating Home Plans at the Division.
Click Create.
Creating a Community in a Division
Within a division, navigate to the Locations tab.
Create a new location of type "Community".
Configure settings:
Name
Allow Lots toggle (disabled by default) — Enables lots at the Community. level. Lots created here will not be inherited by Phase sub-locations and must be managed separately.
Show Map Tab toggle — Controls whether the Map tab is visible on this location.
Allow Home Plans toggle — Enables creating Home Plans directly at this location.
Plan selection (inherited from parent division)
Click Create.
Creating a Phase within a Community
Within a community, navigate to the Locations tab.
Create a new location of type "Phase".
Configure settings:
Name
Allow Lots toggle (enabled by default) — Enables lots at the Phase level. Lots created here will be aggregated and displayed at all parent levels above.
Show Map Tab toggle — Controls whether the Map tab is visible on this location.
Allow Home Plans toggle — Enables creating Home Plans directly at this location.
Price display preferences.
Plan selection (inherited from parent community).
Click Create.
Generate lots.
Tip: If lots are sold in Phases, it is recommended to create a Phase location within a Community and create lots inside each phase. The Lots tab at the Community page will show a roll-up/aggregated view of all lots across its sub-locations.
If lots are not sold in Phases, enable the "Allow Lots" toggle at the Community level and add all lots directly to the Community.
Per-Location Settings
Each location has its own configurable settings, accessible through the Settings tab when editing a location. These settings control lots, maps, home plans, 3D views, logos, plan set generation, and pricing visibility at that specific location.
Accessing Location Settings
Navigate to the Locations page.
Click the overflow menu (three dots) on any location.
Select Edit [Level] Details (e.g., "Edit Division Details").
Click the Settings tab.
Sales Settings
Allow lots
Enables lots to be created at this location. When disabled, the Lots tab is hidden at this level (unless child locations have lots, in which case a read-only roll-up view is shown).
On by default for Phase-level locations.
Off by default for Company, Region, Division and Community locations.
If the location already has lots, you must remove all lots before you can disable this setting.
Tip: If lots are sold in phases, the recommended workflow is to disable "Allow lots" at the Community level and enable it at each Phase. The Community's Lots tab will show a roll-up view of all lots across its child locations.
Show Map Tab
Controls whether the Map tab is visible on this location's page. Disabling hides the Map tab entirely at this level.
Allow home plans
Controls whether home plans can be created at or moved to this location. When disabled, the location will not accept new home plans.
If the location already has home plans, you must remove all home plans before you can disable this setting.
Disable 3D plan view for Showroom public links
When enabled, the interactive 3D plan viewer is hidden on Showroom public links for plans at this location. Buyers will see only 2D views and images instead of the full 3D experience.
Location Logo
Upload a logo to display on this location's public sales map. Logos appear in the top-right corner of the map and are displayed at a fixed height of 64 pixels (or a maximum width of 360 pixels).
Click Upload [Level] Logo to select an image file (max 3 MB).
Once uploaded, use the toggle to enable or disable the logo on the public sales map.
To replace the logo, click Upload New Logo.
To remove the logo, click Delete Logo.
To see how the logo appears, click Preview on Map (requires a map to be uploaded first).
Tip: The logo section is only visible when "Allow lots" is enabled, since public sales maps require lots.
Plan Set Generation
These settings control information that appears on generated PDF plan sets for this location.
View building code info
Expands the building code information fields for this location. When enabled, three text fields appear:
General Notes — Free-text notes displayed on the title sheet.
Gov't Code & Standards — Government code and standards references.
Building Code Analysis / Design Criteria — Building code analysis and design criteria details.
This information is displayed on the title sheet of generated plan sets for homes at this location.
Display office address on PDF plan set
When enabled, a separate office address can be entered that replaces the builder's primary address on generated plan sets. This is useful when a location's office address differs from the builder's headquarters.
Enter the office address, city, state, zip/postal code, and country when this setting is enabled.
Pricing Visibility
Controls which areas of the product display pricing information for this location. By default, each location inherits pricing visibility settings from its nearest parent location, or from the builder's account settings if no parent has overrides configured.
Enable Override Price Visibility Settings to customize pricing visibility specifically for this location. When overriding, you can individually toggle pricing on or off for community plans, internal and public links, option summaries, sales brochures, and public sales maps.
Tip: When "Override Price Visibility Settings" is disabled, the checkboxes show the inherited settings from the parent location or builder account in a read-only state.
For a full explanation of each pricing visibility setting, see Configuring Price Visibility.
Managing Lots, Plans and Options
Plan Inheritance
Plans selected at the division level cascade down to communities and phases
Each level can further restrict available plans or options
Option overrides set at higher levels automatically apply to lower levels
Roll-Up Views
Community level shows consolidated lot information from all phases
Division level displays lots from all communities and phases
Clicking the name of a phase or community in the Lots tab will open the phase or community page
Roll-up views are read-only. Navigate to the sub-location to which the lot is assigned to make changes to it.
Lot Creation
[Admin, Sales Manager]
Builder Dashboard → Locations → Select Community → Lots
Add individual lots to a community by clicking the +Add Lot button.
Manage Lot Status, Lot Premiums, Construction Phase, and Plan Availability for lot fit purposes by clicking directly into each cell.
Maintain and update lot information for a community with a .csv file using the template below. This template is also accessible in the Lots page using the “Download .CSV” button.
To submit changes made via CSV, click the “Upload CSV” button in the Lots page.
Lot Details
Hover over the right side of any lot in the lot list and select Lot Details to view and manage per-lot information including:
Address — Street address for the lot
Garage Handing — Left or right garage orientation
Lot Dimensions — Width and depth (in feet)
Lot Premium — Additional cost for this lot
Discount — Flat dollar discount amount
Designation — Mark lots as Model, Spec, or Standard using the Designation field
Tip: Lot dimensions are in feet. Discounts must be in flat dollar amounts.
Customizing Model and Spec Labels
By default, lot designations display as "Model" and "Spec." If your organization uses different terminology (e.g., "Display" or "Inventory"), an Admin can rename these labels in settings.
Navigate to Settings → Sales → Maps.
Find the Model home name and Spec home name fields.
Enter your preferred label (up to 15 characters). Leave the field blank to use the default.
Click Save.
Custom labels appear everywhere the designation is shown, including:
The Lot Details panel (Designation field)
The Lots table (designation badge)
Community map lot filters
Public sales maps
Tip: If a custom label is longer than 5 characters, it will be truncated with an ellipsis in the lots table badge. Hover over the badge to see the full label.

Best Practices
Plan Hierarchy Structure
[Optional] Use divisions for community organization
Create communities to group related phases
Utilize phases for granular lot management
For the best possible experience in managing communities and phases, the recommended workflow is as follows:
Create a community and disable the “Allow lots” setting
Create phases inside the community and enable the “Allow lots” setting
Create lots inside each phase, NOT at the parent community level
Option Management
Set broad options and regional pricing at division level
Refine option availability/base options at community level
Track lot and home plan availability or statuses at phase level
Mass Lot Edits
Use multi-select to quickly change data or assign phase plans to several lots at once
Brochure Management
Establish standard settings at division level
Override only when necessary at lower levels
FAQ
How can I manage the flow of changes in option data to locations?
To ensure a home plan that has moved through the sales cycle does not receive updates from its parent Studio doc, it is recommended to Detach and Lock the home plan.
To prevent newly published options from being available on a Location-level plan or home plan, check the “Disable new options” checkbox when editing a Location-level plan. This will automatically set newly published options to a “Disabled” state in these plans, which will prevent them from being visible to homebuyers in Showroom.
What is the recommended configuration for BOYL builders?
If the builder offers regional pricing and builds homes within specific neighborhoods, it is recommended to create a Division to set regional pricing and Communities to keep track of neighborhoods where homes are being built.
BOYL builders who are not interested in maintaining lot lists may disable the "Allow Lots" toggle when creating or editing locations. This allows Home Plans to be created directly at the location, without having to create or maintain lot lists and their associated lot plans.
Note: because addresses are stored at the lot level, this may result in sales brochures not displaying the home address on a home plan. If this is not acceptable, keep the "Allow Lots" toggle enabled and follow the same workflow as usual.
How do I move home plans, lots, or locations?
Moving Home Plans: Open the Home Plan, then use the Move action to select a new location and location plan. You will be prompted to review any option changes that result from the move.
Moving Lots: Select one or more lots in the Lots table using multi-select, then use the Move action to move them to a parent, sibling, or descendant location. Lots can only be moved to locations that have the "Allow Lots" toggle enabled.
Moving Locations: When creating a new parent location (e.g., a new Division), you can migrate existing child locations into it during the creation flow.
