Basements

Basements can be added to Higharc homes using the following settings:

  • Levels

  • Foundation - Foundation Settings

  • Foundation Catalog

  • Annotation Catalog

Add a Level

To start off, the Basement level must be created.

To Add a new Level:

  1. Select the ‘+’ next to Levels in the Explorer.

  2. Rename the Level ‘Basement’.

  3. Drag the level to the bottom of the list via the bars on the left side of the level name.

  4. In the Preview view in the Canvas, the home will now appear to be ‘floating’, making room for a basement foundation type.

Note: Make sure to go to your VIEWS and also rename the views related to this level.

Foundation Catalog

Now we need to create the foundation that is going to be used in your basement. This is built inside your Foundation Catalog.

  1. You need to first build your Foundation Components (the pieces of your foundation, like footings and stem walls).

  2. After you have this created, you'll create a Foundation Assembly.

  3. Inside the Assembly setting, you'll put all of these pieces together to create your foundation type.

  4. This is where you'll assign the Datums that are going to be used as Top, Bottom and Lateral referenced. If you keep it as NONE, you'll end up with the settings that are defined in Foundation Settings - if you do add a datum, you'll be overriding this information.

Basement Foundation Setting

The type of foundation that is going to be generated will be defined using a Global Setting > Foundation Settings.

Notion Image

When you first create the setting, the first step will be to select the system that you need to create. You'll have Slab-on-Grade, Raised Slab, Crawlspace and Basements as options - also, CIP or CMU.

The first information will define the foundation conditions, the second will define which catalog will have access to. Make sure to be intentional when selecting it.

So for this use case, you'll need to create

  • Basement / Stem Wall CIP, or

  • Basement / Stem Wall CMU

Then, adjust the Foundation Super System per the home construction requirements.

Under Foundation Sub System, you'll define what foundation assembly created in your catalog will be assigned as your default one for this condition.

You also have the Foundation Conditions below to override this default in some specific conditions.

Also, in this area you can define the details assigned at each unique foundation condition, in your automated set. They will show details from the Annotation Catalog or can be assigned as None, so no details are added to the Construction Documents set.

Draw your Basement in Canvas

The final step is to model the basement as you need, with rooms.

It is super important to keep your basement room edges aligned with the level above, this will allow for the alignments defined in your settings to work as expected.

When the rooms are created, they are shown with the structural basement wall (either CMU or Cast-in-place) with a finished interior wall by default.

To remove the finish wall:

  1. Turn on Foundations in View Mode Filters.

    1. NOTE: If Foundations are off in View Mode Filters, walls will not show.

  2. Select the room, then the Edge.

    1. Void the edge (which will prevent you from adding openings), or

    2. Replace your structural layer, with wall assembly overrides, to a 0” structural layer. This will remove the stud wall, keeping the ability of that edge to receive openings.

Use the ‘Workshop’ room type in the Inspector for unfinished basement rooms. This will remove paint and flooring material assigned to default or general rooms. To set up custom interior finishes, see Interior Material Finishes.
