Room Layouts
Room Layouts are created in a primary reference file or Central Data Model and allow Props, Openings, Casework and Annotations to be referenced into any other files. Think of Room Layouts as a templated container of all these elements that you can bring into your own model. Room Layouts can be found in the Project Browser → Catalog → Room Layouts:
Create a Room Layout
To create a new Room Layout in your Central Data Model
Select the ‘+’ on the right side next to the Room Layouts section. Follow the prompt in the banner and select a room. Props, Openings, Casework and Annotations can be added at this step by holding shift and selecting the entities, or added later.
Give the Room Layout a unique name that can be easily identified throughout the plan suite.
Add new Openings to a room layout by Selecting the ‘+’ next to the entity type (i.e. interior door).
Add new Props to a room. The placement of entities on Edges should be considered when creating layouts. For instance, in this bathroom layout the sink and toilet are mapped to Edge 1 and the shower pan is mapped to Edge 2.
Add Casework or annotations as needed.
Once complete, Re-Publish the model via the Studio dropdown menu.
💡 Notice: All entities in pink designate that these items collectively belong as part of a room layout
Import a Room Layout
To import room layouts from a reference file:
Reference the file containing room layouts into the model (typically your CDM file) by following the steps here 2.51 Document References or update the reference document.
Once the reference file is updated, select the target reference room in the Canvas, in our case, the “bath”.
Ensure you uncheck “Use Built-in Layout”
Then click on the ‘+’ to add a Room Layout Instance
Edges: Use Edge Remapping to map the edges of the layout to the target room:
Use the rotation buttons to rotate the edges around the room.
Use the drop-downs to customize the edges. The first column is the target room edges and the second column is the layout rooms edges.
Openings: Your room layout may also come with an opening, which could be a door or window.
Props: You can see the list of all of the props that are included with your selected room layout. Note that entities can be suppressed to hide the entity from the target layout using the 3-dots.
Modifying and Detaching a Room Layout
The entire room layout can be detached and all entities within that room layout can be customized or modified by clicking on the 3-dots next to the Room Layout.
Please note:
Once a Room Layout is detached, it will no longer inherit updates from the CDM (i.e. source file).
Also once detached, the entities will turn blue (instead of pink), designating each entity as detached and no longer part of a room layout.
