Roof Systems
Roof systems are collections of roofs in a hierarchy.
The first roof in the list is the Primary Roof Structure.
Creating Roofs
To get started creating Roof Systems, perform the following steps.
In the Project Browser, Add a Roof System.
Add a Roof to that Roof System.
In the Inspector, Roofs can be drawn using two different methods: Roofs by Block and Perimeter.
Roof System Hierarchy
When multiple roofs are added to a roof system, they follow a hierarchy logic.
The roof at the top of the roof system list, becomes the Primary roof or Main roof. This should be the tallest roof.
The roofs below on the list become the sub-roof systems and should be shorter than the Main roof.
All of these roofs together, make up a roof system.
Roof Options
To create Roof Options, additional Roof Systems are created and Optioned, so that each Roof System becomes its own option.
Shape Tab
The Shape tab in Roof Settings holds robust programmatic settings that control:
The parent roof System
The general shape of the roof, including
Perimeter
Type
Slope
Peak direction
Weld Mode
Structure and Framing
The vertical placement of the roof
Roof materials
Ridge caps
Skylights
Eave & Rake Tab
The Eave & Rake tab in Roof Settings contains properties that control the details of roof eave & rake generation:
Overhangs
Eave Types
Soffits
Fascia, Frieze & Base Board Trim
Brackets
Facades Tab
The Facades tab is for controlling Roof hosted Facades. To add a Facade to a Roof, follow these steps:
Select a Facade from the list.
Select the face to apply the Facade.

Roof Edge Manipulation
Selecting the roof and manipulating some settings by selecting each roof edge in 3D.
Select the roof subsystem in 3D.
The settings below can be manipulated by selecting each roof instance.
Manipulating Roofs
Roofs can be manipulated in the following ways:
Roof Settings in each roof instance (covered above).
Roof Edge Manipulations.
Roof Setting Sets.
Roof Setting Sets
Aside from creating a boundary and assigning a block, many of the same settings and controls that exist in instance-created roofs are shown in Engine-created roofs. These settings can be found in the setting set ‘Roof’.
Creating Roof Settings allows roof settings to be inherited to any roof created in the model, or referenced into any model as well. For example, if there are standard roof settings to be inherited to a set of plans they can be created one time and will automatically apply to all models.
