Shape Edit Mode

Shape Edit Mode allows Studio users to isolate and edit all shape-based entities with 2D lines. This includes Roofs, Rooms, Annotation Linework, Reference Geometry, Stairs, Railings and more.

To enter Shape Edit Mode:

  1. Double click on a shape-based entity in a plan view (e.g. roof, room, railing).

  2. Click on the new “Edit Shape Mode” icon in the command palette to enter Shape Edit Mode.

Commands

The following commands are now available when editing shapes:

  • Shape - Draw a line, rectangle, arc, etc.

    • Union - Find the combined areas of two closed shapes

    • Subtract - Remove an area from a closed shape

    • Intersect - Find the overlapping area between closed shapes and produce a new shape from their intersection

  • Trim - Trim a polyline by another polyline.

  • Join - Join disconnected shapes into contiguous ones

  • Explode - Break a shape into lines

  • Offset - Offset a shape by a given distance (Default 1’)

  • Split Edge - Create point(s) on an edge to manipulate

Additionally, the move and delete commands now allow you to move and delete shape components.

Shape Manipulation

When in Shape Edit Mode, you may double click into an edge or a vertex to simply drag-and move the shape. Use the shift-key to constrain the movement to an orthogonal axis.

Saving a Shape

Committing changes made in Shape Edit Mode to a model requires all shapes drawn to be valid. The system will check for invalid edits, such as such as self-intersection or open shapes, and make recommendations to resolve them in the banner at the top of the page.

Once you are satisfied with your edits , you may exit Shape Edit Mode and commit the changes with any of the following actions:

  • Pressing the ‘Enter’ key

  • Double clicking outside of the shape

  • Clicking the “Done” button on the banner at the top of the page

Discarding Changes

To discard edits made to a shape and exit the workflow, click ‘Cancel’ on the top banner or press the ‘Esc’ key.

Reference Geometry

Use Reference Geometry as guidelines to more accurately place Rooms, Openings and Props. Reference Geometry is not printed. Note that Reference Geometry will not print or show on exported plans. Entities can snap to reference Geometry – which can be especially helpful when ensuring that rooms placed on multiple levels align with each other.

To create Reference Geometry:

  1. Select the Explorer tab in the Project Browser.

  2. Navigate to Reference Geometry and select the ‘+’ to create new.

  3. Reference Geometry can be named, locked and adjusted for visibility in the Explorer.

  4. Reference Geometry can be adjusted for width, height and area in the Inspector.
