Props Migrating from Settings to the Prop Catalog

Expand to read more about the Prop Migration!

  • Props have moved from Exterior and Interior Prop Settings to Prop Catalogs in the Explorer. This provide cleaner and more predictable interfaces for Studio users.

    • Individual props can no longer be conditioned disabled, preventing a class of missing reference errors.

    • We’ve enhanced the Catalog UI to make it easier to create and manage prop libraries.

  • How it works:

    • New props are created from the Props section in the Studio Left side Explorer.

    • Once a individual prop is created, users can organize it by adding it to a group.

  • Migration of Existing Props

    • All existing props created via settings have been moved to the Props Catalog section of the Explorer. These props were added to a group that reflects the previous Settings Set name.

  • Built-in Props

    • Built-in Props automatically appear within a System Group for all new files.

    • This Built-in Prop group can be deleted entirely, removing built-in props from files, and preventing them from being utilized by props.

    • It’s recommended that most users delete these built-in props when starting a new file, and rely instead on Prop libraries created within CDM files.

  • UI Improvements:

    • Group Inspector.

      • Users can inspect a group of props, and review the group in the right-side inspector.

      • Here users can search, sort, and add new props directly to the group

    • Usages Improvements

      • Previously, the Usages tab of Prop Settings would show the usages of all props within a Settings Set. As most settings sets contained numerous props, this information wasn’t always helpful.

      • Now, users can right click an individual prop in the explorer and see all instances of that prop in their local file. The prop instances will also highlight on the 2D editor canvas when you hover on the prop instance in the context menu flyout. Clicking an individual Usage will navigate the explorer to that specific prop.

  • Merging of Interior and Exterior Props

    • Previously, Interior and Exterior Props were isolated to individual Settings Sets. The exact distinctions between these were nuanced and difficult to understand. Now, users can simply make a single prop type and apply different visibility and categorical meta data to control behaviors of individual props.

    • Users can now assign either an interior or exterior palette slot to any prop.
